How much does karting cost in the UK?

It depends how far you go. You can try it for the price of a session, or race a whole club season. Here are the published prices at each step.


Trying it

  • Arrive-and-drive track time starts from about £30 a session, with all the equipment provided. Motorsport UK
  • Outdoor arrive-and-drive series such as Club100 use a free K-X licence, so there is no starter pack or ARKS test to pay for. Motorsport UK

Getting a racing licence

  • The Motorsport UK karting starter pack is £78, and includes your first Kart Interclub licence. Motorsport UK shop
  • The ARKS test costs up to £100 including VAT, plus kart hire, kit and practice-day fees. ARKS
  • Drivers under 18 also need a parent or guardian Entrant PG licence, normally £30, which the starter pack covers. ABKC

Your own kart

  • A ready-to-race second-hand kart with spares costs £1,000 to £3,000, and you'll need a trailer. Motorsport UK
  • A new Senior kart is about £6,000, and a new KZ2 gearbox kart from £7,000. ABKC

Each race meeting

  • Tyres are a control tyre for each class. The season cost calculator shows current set prices from UK sellers.
  • Engine servicing and rebuilds depend on what the engine needs, so ask your engine builder for a quote.
